English Country Day

from Songs From A Happy Winter by Marc Gallagher

/

about

I played a gig in Keswick, Cumbria and stayed over. The next day I explored the beauty of the lake nearby, absorbed the small town sense of community and graft and found it the refreshing departure from city life I have been accustomed to over the last few years.

lyrics

Morning breaks over the lakes, sunlight pierce the hills Townsfolk wait to start the day, the heat slowly spills The market stalls are poised for the coming hours of trade And so begins an English country day

Palms laced with silver, handmade goods exchanged Crafted with love from the working man, in a distant mountain range The silver funds his daughter with some new music to play To liven up the English country day

Palms are calloused, in a distant farming yard To the soundtrack of livestock that feed the boulevard At night you feel the stillness as the only soul awake Before another English country day
