How Much I Love You

from Level Up by Marc Gallagher

/

about

I heard Caroline Francess play the song "I Want To Know" and one lyric resonated with me.

"I want to know how it feels to hand my parents a cheque and say 'thank you for everything'"

I was inspired from this to write a song for my mother-a strong, selfless woman who has put up with a lot of crap over the decades to raise me and my siblings, all without receiving her due credit. This was my attempt at righting some of those wrongs.

lyrics

Your husband left you, alone with three kids
In my youth I was unaware of all the things you did
Cycling many miles so your shop can save pennies
Never had much, but you gave your children plenty

Look into my eyes, I must apologise,
because I never told you just how much I love you
And I have to say, I wouldn't have it any other way
Because I never told you just how much I love you

When I hit rock bottom, you raised me up
Never saw the effort but I didn't think to look
All the times you drove me, to the shows I played
All the sacrifices that I never knew you made

Look into my eyes, I must apologise,
because I never told you just how much I love you
And I have to say, I wouldn't have it any other way
Because I never told you just how much I love you

Thank you for the tough love, thanks for the benevolence
At the time I wish I didn't have such ignorance
Thank you for raising me for guiding me through life
Now this song's on paper, I gotta say a thousand times

Look into my eyes, I must apologise,
because I never told you just how much I love you
And I have to say, I wouldn't have it any other way
Because I never told you just how much I love you
