One Foot In Front Of The Other

from Songs From a Shit Summer by Marc Gallagher

/

about

I came up with this idea whilst at a ukulele festival. I was feeling rather unappreciated in and amongst the scene, and I chose to write a song about how I felt about my standing in the music industry. I’m hoping to remain positive and keeping making the little steps and hoping that I go further, no matter how gradual the steps.

lyrics

I wake up in the morning don't want to get out of bed
Weighed down by my failures and lack of progress
While my friends are on the big stage, I'm playing for free
Nobody seems to like my music or me

But I'll put one foot in front of the other, that's all I can do
One foot in front of the other, til I get my breakthrough
They'll be long days and long nights, and no sleep and no light but I'll keep making steps
One foot in front of the other, and I'll walk forward, and never look back

I fire up my laptop, my phone ready to call
Contact every promoter, I've been through them all
Playing basement bars, and open mics, and even in the street,
No one seems to like my music or me

But I'll put one foot in front of the other, that's all I can do
One foot in front of the other, til I get my breakthrough
They'll be long days and long nights, and no sleep and no light but I'll keep making steps
One foot in front of the other, and I'll walk forward, and never look back

I'll go through all this hardship, trying to chase my dream,
No one seems to like my music or me

But I'll put one foot in front of the other, that's all I can do
One foot in front of the other, til I get my breakthrough
They'll be long days and long nights, and no sleep and no light but I'll keep making steps
One foot in front of the other, and I'll walk forward, and never look back
