Locked Down My Whole Life

Written during the lifting of Lockdown 1 around July 2020, I noticed as no-one attempted to meet up with me, despite seeing them reunite with other friends. In my loneliness I realised that during all this time no one had actually missed me. I also felt the strain of toxic productivity-the idea that if you hadn't written a novel or learnt a language during lockdown, you had somehow failed.

I recorded a video of this song on my social media, and for the EP I chose to use this same recording, because I didn't think I'd be able to accurately recreate the emotion I had in that performance, nor did I particularly want to revisit that place mentally.

Everyone’s running, and cooking, and learning a new language. friends connect on zoom games
I’m failing the new normal, feeling lost and disadvantaged as I’m under my duvet
Concerts move online, no one’s tuning into mine

The world starts to open up, the towns are drunk and merry, and the smiles they are glistening
For invitations I wait, I never hear from any, Seems like nobody missed me
